FATIMA 5K AND 1MI FUN RUN
SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2002

The Fatima 5k and 1 mile fun run was held at the Cajun Field under the big oak tree.  In the 5k run, first and second place awards were presented to all men and women winners in 5-year age groups, youngest being 9 and under and the oldest being 65 and over.  For the 1 mile run/walk, awards were presented to first and second place overall men and women winners; all finishers received ribbons.
The most amazing runner was 4 year old Hannah Dill who ran the 5k in a time of 50 minutes, 35 seconds.  Cheers to Hannah!  This race was a prime example of the support schools receive from parents, students and the community.  Numerous young students woke up early on their day off of school to show their support for their school. Of the 86 participants in the 5k, 32 were seventeen and under.  Many parents ran along side their children making this a nice family outing.
The old fashioned snow cone stand was issuing free snow cones to everyone.  Runners also had numerous treats and refreshments---sports drinks, water, bagels, bananas, oranges and cookies.  Tee-shirts were given to each participants and prizes galore were distributed.  The weather was a little warm, but the company and happy winners made it a pleasant day under the Cajun Field oak tree.
Again, thanks to the Lafayette Police Department for their safety measures in escorting our runners.  The race management team were volunteers from the Cajun Road Runners Club.
