Tuesday, June 13, 2006 saw the running of the Kings of the Concrete 3 x 2 mile relay in New Iberia.  Sponsored by George's Gym on Parkview, six teams of three each ran the 6 mile loop that finishes in City Park.  First across the line was former pro triathlete Heath Biggerstaff, staked to early lead by teammates David Lasseigne and Alix Stelly.  A rematch has been tentatively scheduled for next month, when Race Director Carroll Smith will be challenged to perhaps seed the teams just a but more evenly.  There was much head-scratching as we tried to figure how one team could have two present or former UL-Lafayette varsity runners as well as a wily oilfield executive in the middle of a successful transformation from champion weightlifter to potential Boston Marathon qualifier.  The competitors ranged in age from 19 to 72, running anywhere from 6:00 to 9:30 miles.
