CITY OF KAPLAN CENTENNIAL 5K/1M
November 23, 2002
Runners and walkers enjoyed a frisky morning for the celebration of the city of Kaplan’s one-hundredth birthday. Temperature was in the 40’s at the start of the race but quickly warming up as the 1 mile event ended.
First time race manager, Councilman Jonathan Perry, along with many volunteers, welcomed the runners to the city. The race was well organized and winners received a bag of “goodies” donated by Academy along with medals and a centennial t-shirt.
The race began at city hall, going south down the main street boulevard and continued around the residential area of the city. Runners finished at Turnley City Park. Fruit and sports drinks were enjoyed by all. Jonathan announced he was very satisfied with the number of runners, considering this was a “first year” event, and planned to continue sponsoring this event on a yearly basis, inviting all participants to return next year.
An interesting observance: The youngest participant was Trent Turnley, 9, and, coincidently, the oldest was his grandfather, Norris Frederick, 72.
