“RUN FOR THE ARTS”  5 K RUN/WALK OVERALL RESULTS  &SUMMARY

Sunday April 4, 2004 Abbeville, Magdalen Square

What a beautiful day for runners!  Considering that participants had to drive through a dense fog and “rise and shine” an hour earlier for the first day of daylight savings time making them, runners ignored these 2 obstacles to begin the race with a beautiful day for running.  

Leading the race was overall male winner Jim Howard (20:46), who had directed the Hot Sauce Run the day before.  Second male overall was Andrew Girard (21:12) followed by third overall, Walter Zenon III (23:44).  

 In the female division, the first overall finisher was Olivia Girouard (23:48),  followed by second female overall Jasmine Cavallaro (24:02), and third overall Ellen Deaton (24:09).

 Runners began at Magdalen Square, which was the setting for most of scenes from the movie, THE BLOB.  The course meandered through a picturesque area of tree-covered streets, Comeaux Park, in front of the uniquely beautiful Abbeville Parish Court House (also scene of the movie) ending back at the Square.  Music by a disc jockey made this a festive event.  Awards were presented in front of the old “Frank’s Theater”, within view of antique cars lined along the next street.    

Profits went to the Abbeville High School band.  Walter Zenon, race chairperson, gave a warm welcome and appreciative thanks to the runners.
